Macerich Co.

In 1964 two men decided to combine their names and form Macerich Co. a investment fund which invests in shopping malls.

What does an investment fund which has always invested in shopping malls do to grow? Well invest in more shopping malls naturally. Though with the arrival of express delivery and people’s desire to shop from the comfort of their own home, one might say that shopping malls are going the way of the dodo. Then again, there will always be special occasions which warrants a personal shopping spree, so maybe things might work out in the long run.

As mentioned before, the fund intends to keep investing where it has before, which seems to be a shrinking pool. A somewhat uncertain playing field, but as the amount of shopping malls dips, there may still be enough to survive on and who knows, maybe one day the sector will see a boost and the remaining players will stand to benefit from it.

The fund pays out a quarterly dividend. There hasn’t been much growth on that front, which at first doesn’t seem like a very exciting investment, but by reinvesting the profits there may be room to grow the pay-outs in the future. Time will tell.
