I can’t imagine anyone reading this hasn’t driven or been driven past a gas station. On some of these stations you might have seen a picture of a shell as a logo. If you have, then you’ve been in contact with Shell one of the biggest oil and gas producers in the world.
The company headquarters is located in London and while it certainly has it’s British roots, there is a bit of Dutch history as well, which sadly has been cut of since Shell decided to abandon being partly Dutch and got rid of it’s second headquarters which was located in the Netherlands.
The logo stems from it’s roots on the British side. Believe it or not, but the origin of the company lies in seashell trading.
Shell is a gas and oil company and will most like stay so in the foreseeable future. Still there are some side projects for possibly transitioning into hydrogen as a new energy source. At least that’s what they try to convince the public of. There are more than a few sceptics, but then again switching to a clean source of energy would remove the heat they get from climate activists, which has been increasing in recent years.
As mentioned, there might be a day when gas and oil are a thing of the past, but for the time being Shell and it’s competitors will keep pumping that liquid gold. Because of the high demand in it’s goods and the high investment costs to deliver said goods, Shell will probably remain profitable for quite some time to come.
Shell has a history of paying out a quarterly dividend. In fact in it’s entire lifespan there have only been two times when the company has had to cut it’s dividend, namely the second world war and during the pandemic from 2019 to 2022. There’s no guarantee for dividend payments in the future, but at least Shell has a good track record in that regard.
