Founded back in 1929 with the merge of both a Dutch and British company, which sold soap and margarine respectively, it’s headquarters currently resides in London and it’s products vary greatly. Mostly focusing on health and food items though.
After years of absorbing other companies as a means of growth, the board has decided to split off it’s ice cream department with the hopes of increasing profits by focussing on a smaller product line. Whether this will have the desired effect, or be the start of a further decline – time will tell.
The company obviously has competition, but worse than that the competition seems to be outperforming. Investors have been unsatisfied with Unilevers stock prices for quite some time, as most competitors have seen steeper growth in this regard.
The company pays out a quarterly dividend and does so quite reliably. Though there hasn’t been much in the way of growth. Seems boring, but reliable at least.
